Chapter Twelve

Cam

I hurried back to my hotel, my body sore in all the best ways. I could hardly believe we’d done that. I had let a stranger—who also happened to be my husband—fuck me, bare no less. It had been amazing. Oliver was hotter than hot and the lust-fueled sex with him had been top-tier, so I wasn’t regretting it. The sex was definitely one reason to wish that our relationship didn’t end too soon. The other reason was the more I thought about it, the more bits and pieces of the night of the wedding came back to me, hazy as they were.

I certainly couldn’t remember everything, not even close. But I did remember how much fun we had together. I remembered how we’d danced and kissed and touched each other all night. I remembered sitting at a diner booth, laughing our asses off as we shared a plate of fries and a few drinks. I even remembered the fluttery feeling in my stomach when we’d kissed, our first kiss as husbands. Ultimately, I was glad we’d gotten married, conventions be damned.

If I was being honest with myself, though, I was definitely worried that despite all my hopes, he would want to go through with the divorce anyway. My chest ached at the thought of being divorced before I even got a chance to get to know my husband.

I checked the time as I entered the hotel. It was mid-afternoon and I needed to meet up with the group for dinner soon. I’d left in such a hurry, only saying the Chef needed to meet with me, and I knew they’d have questions. Probably a lot of questions. I had no idea what I was going to tell them. Maybe I’d make up an elaborate lie to cover my tracks. I hated the idea of lying to my friends. Maybe I’d just tell the truth.

Back in my room, I took a little while to clean myself up and gather my thoughts. I felt a little like a fairy-tale princess—marrying a man I’d just met and hoping beyond all odds that it would work out for a happily-ever-after ending. I had to keep telling myself that it would most likely end in divorce and I needed to get ready for that.

I made my way down to the hotel restaurant a little before our reservation time. When I got there, our table was already ready, so I took a seat and ordered a drink while I waited for the rest of the guys to arrive, jiggling my foot and bouncing my knee while I stressed over what I was going to say.

Parker and Jared showed up first, jostling one another and laughing. Parker shoved Jared and said something I couldn’t make out before Jared took a playful swing at Parker and nearly clocked a server who was walking by with a tray of food. She shot them a glare and hurried on her way. When they spotted me, they stopped their horseplay and fixed their gazes on me, making a beeline to the table.
